Well Pump Replacement Cost Calculator

Pick your well depth, the type of pump, whether anything else is going in with it, and how hard the well head is to reach. The range updates as you go, it is built from the same numbers on the pricing page, and there is no email gate.

Two honest notes before you use it. Depth and yield drive this price more than any other factor: the same pump costs half as much to install at 150 feet as it does at 500, because the pull, the pipe, and the wire scale with the hole. And on a low-yield mountain well, the right pump is often a smaller one with more stages set deeper, not a bigger one, so a quote that goes up in horsepower without asking about your yield is a quote to be careful with.

What each answer changes

  • Depth sets the band. Under 200 feet is the $1,200 to $2,500 job; 200 to 400 feet is $2,000 to $3,500; beyond that you are into the $3,500 to $6,000 range along with constant-pressure systems. Most Henderson County wells land in the middle band.
  • Pump type changes the equipment. A jet pump sits above ground on shallow and older wells and is the cheapest of the three. A constant-pressure system adds a variable-speed drive that holds steady pressure instead of cycling between 40 and 60 psi, which is a real upgrade on a house with a long run or multiple bathrooms.
  • Extras are the parts that are the same age as the pump. The tank is the one worth doing, because a bad tank is what kills pumps early. See short cycling for why.
  • Access is time. A well head in an open yard is a straightforward hoist. A steep lot above Laurel Park or a well house you have to work inside adds setup.

Before you spend this money

Run the no water diagnostic estimator first if the pump has not actually been condemned yet. Most no-water calls in this county end in a $150 to $450 switch, control box, or check valve, and a pump should never be replaced until those have been ruled out with a meter. The well pump repair page walks through the tests that make that call.

If the well itself is the problem rather than the pump, more horsepower will not fix it. The running dry page covers storage, resetting the pump deeper, and hydrofracturing at $2,000 to $5,000, all of which beat oversizing a pump into a well that cannot feed it.

Estimator

What will a new well pump cost?

Four questions. Every line is a range published on the pricing page, so you have a number before anyone comes out.

Estimated range Typical Hendersonville pricing, before anyone visits

Deep wells and constant-pressure systems both sit in the published $3,500 to $6,000 band, and the extras are separate published line items on top of that. Jet pumps are shallow-well equipment: if your well is deeper than about 200 feet, the honest answer is a submersible, and we will say so.

Send this estimate to the quote form

An estimate, not a quote. The firm number comes after the water level and the pump amps are measured at the well, and it should not move after that.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do these numbers come from?

The tables on the pricing page: $1,200 to $2,500 for a submersible on a well under 200 feet, $2,000 to $3,500 for 200 to 400 feet, $3,500 to $6,000 for deeper or constant-pressure systems, $700 to $1,500 for a jet pump, $600 to $1,500 for a pressure tank, $200 to $450 for a control box, and $400 to $1,500 for drop pipe and wire.

What is included in a pump replacement?

Pulling the old pump, inspecting the drop pipe and wire, the new pump sized to your depth and yield, new wire and splice, a torque arrestor, reinstallation, chlorinating the well, flushing it, and testing. State rules require the disinfection and a plate on the casing recording the install date, intake depth, and horsepower. A bid missing those items is a different job, not a cheaper one.

I do not know my well depth. Where do I find it?

Three places. The plate the state requires on the casing, the Well Construction Record filed with Henderson County Environmental Health, which the county keeps in a searchable permit database, or the invoice from the last pump job. Pick over 400 feet in the calculator if you genuinely have no idea and treat the result as the outer edge.

Should I replace the pressure tank at the same time?

Usually yes, if the tank is anywhere near the pump's age. A waterlogged tank short-cycles a new pump exactly the way it killed the old one, and adding a tank on the same visit costs far less than a second trip. We check the precharge and tell you honestly if the tank is fine.
